Western & Southern Open

Midwest Sports is a proud platinum sponsor of the Western & Southern Open. Over the past decade, Midwest Sports has partnered with the W&S Open as the official retailer. Our 12,000 sq. ft. air-conditioned satellite store located behind Center Court, features a comprehensive selection of tennis racquets, tennis apparel, tennis shoes & much more from over 25 different vendors.
Starting on August 15th, in the suburbs of Mason, Ohio, the Linder Family Tennis Center will play host to the world’s top ATP & WTA tennis players. The Western & Southern Open didn’t magically become the massive Masters 1000 series & Premier 5 event it is today, overnight. Originally starting all the way back in 1899, the Cincinnati tournament is the oldest professional tennis tournament in the United States that is still held in it's original city.
The Western & Southern Open has changed locations & titles within the Cincinnati area several times. Some of the more notable Cincinnati locations that hosted the still youthful tournament included: Avondale Athletic Club, Cincinnati Tennis Club, and Coney Island.
In 1979, a permanent stadium was constructed to house the tournament 20 miles north of Cincinnati in Mason, Ohio. Prior to 1979, the tournament court surface was exclusively clay but switched over to hard-court when the new stadium was built. With a Center Court already established the tournament later built two other stadium style courts: Grandstand Court and Court 3.
In 2002 the Western & Southern Financial Group took over as the primary sponsor to the tournament. In the past decade, the tournament has grown to new heights, upgrading and expanding multiple times. In 2010 the tournament added a fourth permanent stadium style court. The event now features a total of 16 courts, including four tennis stadiums — Center Court, Grandstand Court, Court 4 and Court 9 (formerly known as Court 3).

The Western & Southern Open is only one of five events in the world outside of the Grand Slams with events of both ATP Tour Masters 1000 series and a Premier 5 event for the WTA occurring during the same week at the same venue. This tournament is often viewed as the final "tune up" tournament before the U.S. Open.
